"Carrie Weiss" Kevin Connolly Collection

"Carry Weiss" Kevin Connolly Collection
If you have been following the comments on the previous post, you will have read the names of Houdini’s brothers and sister. Melbo mentions in one comment that different people in the family spelled Carrie’s name differently. Leave it up to Houdini could do it on just one postcard. Houdini addresses the postcard “Carry”, but on the other side he writes her name as “Carrie”. You’re not helping us Harry!

From The Amos P. Houdini Collection...LOL!
Well, it never really ends with Houdini. Above is a index card, produced in the last couple of years, or sooner. It could have been yesterday. The index card mentions that two decks were found in Houdini’s pants. The link is below to see the cards on Ebay.

This item came from Houdini’s uncle, Amos P. Houdini! A true rarity. I think it would go well with one of those Ebay $49.00 Houdini clipped signature. For me, I’ll have to live without this rarity.

Rich Norgard, who added much information to the Success VS. Houdini Challenge thread, has started his own blog. His blog is on the convict ship “Success”. It’s an interesting read and a nice effort by Rich. Here is the link:

If you like to read more about about the challenge, just use the search on the right side. Just add Success and it will pop-up.
Congrats to Rich and his new toy.

Now here was a great man. He was more than just an excellent doctor and premier magic collector, Robert Albo was a class act. I met a few people in my life, but few ever approached the caliber of Doc. I know he was 78 and that’s a good life span, at least to me. Besides mourning the passing of the man, I mourn that there is one less decent and caring person in the world. And the world today really can’t spare losing anymore.
Here is a link to Bob’s obituary:

This is the original 8X10 image from “The Master Mystery”. It has not been cropped like the one for “The Grim Game” card. As mentioned in the other thread, why would this be done? With so many images of Houdini and the access to many studio photographers, why go this route?
Also mentioned in the other thread, was the completeness of Houdini films. Well, now at least you can see the whole picture for the first time. Enjoy.
Enough useless Houdini information for now.

I was going to post something a little mysterious about the above image, but another mystery was already waiting for me. I’m looking for a Don Quixote and a Sancho to right these wrongs, I mean mysteries. I need someone who uses IMDB, Internet Movie Database and someone who uses Wikipedia. I know that there at least two serious movie mavens here that can fix the problem on IMDB. I also know that there are many Houdini historians here and I hope they could fix the errors on Wikipedia. As for me, I’m lucky I have time to find, scan and post something here. Anyone want to fight a windmill?
Now here is the rub; while double checking the release dates for Houdini movies, I found both of the above sites have the wrong dates and information for the release of ” The Master Mystery”. There might be other dates wrong on IMDB. I think the Wiki article could be tuned-up too.
I’ll get back the original mystery with movie card above tomorrow.

Harry and Bess Houdini wish you a happy St. Valentine’s Day.
This a cabinet photo by Campbell Gray – London, circa 1907. It’s a nice image with Houdini’s arm behind Bess and her arm resting on his leg. Bess must have been very short or the chair very large. She couldn’t sit all the way back in the chair or have her feet touch the floor. Please click on Bess for a larger image.
Don’t forget to buy the cards, candy and flowers tomorrow guys or it could be “No Houdini For You”.

Undoubtedly you all have must have heard of the new book, “The Last Greatest Magician in the World: Howard Thurston versus Houdini and the Battles of the American Wizards” by now. I have read some of the reviews of the book and I’m really puzzled. Many of the authors of the reviews seem to believe that Thurston was a bigger personality than Houdini. I know I’m very partial to Houdini, but is it even close to even try to compare Thurston to Houdini? In all my time of collecting magic and Houdini, it never crossed my mind that Thurston was even a contender.
I know both the Houdini and Thurston camps have their opinions. What’s your thoughts?

All of you Houdini mavens out there, I could use your help with a Houdini question. The above is a program/pitchbook for Houdini. It is dated November 1st. It is for the Hanna theater in Cleveland. Here’s the question:
Does anyone know where Houdini was supposed to play the week of November 1st, 1926? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks….Kevin
