Today is one of Houdini’s birthdays and he sends you his best. Houdini is also sending T. Neslon Downs this postcard on his birthday. Now here is an image that Google could have considered. At least they gave it a shot.
Happy birthday Houdini. I’ll leave a candle burning.

Scary Houdini By Google
Google is using this image for Houdini’s birthday. An uglier Houdini image would be hard to top. Hopefully they’ll fix it for his second birthday on April 6th.

Dorothy Young
This is a nice piece on Dorothy Young. It has some new information on her and her Houdini connection.

I’m sorry to inform you all that Dorothy Young has passed away. She was Houdini’s assistant. I will post more on Dorothy as run across material. Here is a nice video of her.

Dorothy Young & Jon Oliver
UPDATE 3-21-11 I had to bring this back for another run.
UPDATE! I had to bring this back to the top since some more information has been added in the “Comment” section by Jon Oliver. Thanks Jon.
Houdini historian and collector, Jon Oliver, made the trek from Michigan to New Jersey last week. He was on a mission. Jon made this trip to visit the last living connection to Harry Houdini, Dorothy Young. Jon spent an hour and a half talking with Houdini’s assistant. He said outside of being somewhat hard of hearing, she was in fine health. Hopefully, Jon will tell us more about his visit with Dorothy Young.

I just came back from the Houdini exhibit, presented by The Jewish Museum in the City (aka NYC). I have been to the museum numerous times since the opening; I almost know it by heart. What has amazed me the most has been the people, the amount of people, that is. No matter when I have gone to the museum whether it was a Saturday, a Sunday or a weekday, there were always hundreds of people there. It amazed me more and more each time. While everyone is looking at the posters, photos etc.; I’m looking and listening to the people expressing such interest in Houdini. What I thought was going to be a very nice Houdini exhibit, turned out better than I could have ever imagined. After all these years Houdini can still draw a crowd. I hope you get a chance to see it.

The Best Ever? It Just May Be.

$4,000 Takes It Home
I found this book on the net today and just said “Wow!”. I know it’s not an original binding, but everyone has those. Just the workmanship on the cover of this book is fantastic. To me, it’s a work of art. You can disagree, so feel free to do so.

Even after 101 years, Houdini still looks pretty good at the wheel. My thanks go out to Houdini and magic collector, Michael Kelly, for this image. It’s one of the nicest and sharpest images of Houdini I have ever seen. Happy anniversary Houdini for your first, sustained powered flight in Australia 101 years ago today.
